Approaches to Nutrition 

  • Health at Every Size (HAES) is a framework that accepts and respects that all bodies come in different shapes and sizes. There is not one ideal body type! It promotes individualized eating based on your hunger, nutritional needs and pleasure, rather than on weight control or dieting. Your nutrition should support your well-being in all areas of your life, not just your physical appearance.

  • Intuitive eating is an evidence-based approach to food and eating that focuses on listening to your body’s hunger cues and signals of fullness. Eat when you’re physically hungry and stop when you’re comfortably full. I want you to start rejecting the idea that certain foods are off limits and start having a more positive relationship with food.

  • A whole-food first approach prioritizes whole, unprocessed foods to achieve optimal health. We want to get foods as close to their natural state as possible.. think oranges instead of orange juice or a baked potato instead of french fries. This strategy is widely recommended for disease prevention and chronic disease management, supporting everything from better digestion to mental well-being.

  • Plant-based nutrition emphasizes foods derived from plants - such as fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, nuts and seeds. It has significant health benefits such as higher fiber content, rich in micronutrients and phytochemicals, and is lower in saturated fat and cholesterol. Eating more plants can improve cardiovascular health, prevent/manage type 2 diabetes, lower your risk of certain cancers and promotes a diverse and healthy gut microbiome.
